When Diane Chidsey was 12, her mom taught her to sew and signed her up for 4-H, whose members displayed their fledgling skills at the county fair. She won a blue ribbon her first time out, modeling her navy polka dot sheath, and she was hooked.
She spent her college summers working as a costumer at Berea Summer Theater and a stylist at an upscale boutique in NYC. She went on to design and build costumes for productions in Boston, Chicago, Detroit, LA, and the State and Allen Theaters in Cleveland’s Playhouse Square; and also worked as a commercial stylist and costumer for many local and national companies.
For over 30 years, she designed and made custom gowns and accessories for weddings, proms, pageants, and other special occasions. This experience is the foundation for her current focus on re-working existing pieces, whether it’s as simple as a hem, or as complex as re-designing a vintage gown. Creativity, attention to detail and thoughtful consideration for the client’s individual needs are the hallmarks of Diane Chidsey Design.
